HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The search for a Hancock County escapee has extended to Louisiana.

Authorities are searching for 28-year-old Perry Thomas.

Officials say Thomas and 21-year-old Montrell Lederick McPherson scaled the fence of the jail yard and escaped on Sunday shortly after 6 p.m.

Officials said McPherson was caught immediately by authorities, but Thomas managed to escape with the help of a woman.

Deputies tell WLOX News they're now following leads that put him in the New Orleans area.

Deputies say sometime after midnight, Thomas allegedly got that phone from a woman who helped with his getaway.

That woman is now in custody.

According to the Hancock County Jail database, Thomas was booked into the jail on Saturday for a number of traffic violations, along with contempt of court, sexual battery and resisting arrest.

If you spot the escaped inmate, you're asked to call the Hancock County Sheriff's Department at (228) 255-9191 or your local law enforcement.
