ESCATAWPA, MS (WLOX) - Hundreds of people came out in Moss Point on Saturday for an annual event that helps pay the medical bills of kids in need.
Just three weeks ago, Tim and Terra Davis received devastating news that their 19-month-old baby girl Alyssa was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder. Alyssa is one of the three children who are benefiting from this year's Kenny Crawford Memorial Charity Benefit.
"I was called by one of the members of the event and asked if Alyssa could be in it. They nominated her and I said, 'Of course'," said Terra.
"It's amazing how a community will come together, and it's great to know that you're not alone in this fight. That people will be behind you and support you," Tim said.
The Davis' can't be thankful enough for all of the help they've received thus far.
"People have helped us out along the way, but this right here is a blessing. It really is and truly is a blessing," Tim said.
"It's a blessing, because just to know that the community can come together and support the three children in the event and without a problem, it's just a blessing. God has really been working in our family and has been since the day she's been born," Terra added.
Frankie Brown is one of the event coordinators, and he said he looks forward to the benefit every year to help three more children with their medical expenses.
"It's all about the kids. It's not about anything, and you can see by the crowd and the people that's here, they're going to get out and do what they have to do to help anybody. That's what I can say about this little area here in Little Marine, the people are awesome," Brown said.
Brown says this annual event is something he and his partner do to honor their late friend, Kenny Crawford, who was a local musician who was known to host benefits and raise money for people in need in the community.
