BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Madison Robinson is a 16-year-old entrepreneur and has had her own business for nearly a decade. Most 8-year-olds who really like flip flops would just ask their parents to buy them more, but when Madison was eight, she designed her own.
"I handed him the drawing, and I said, 'hey Dad look, FishFlops,' and he got really excited and he was really into it," said Madison.
Her dad said at that very moment, he knew his daughter had something good.
"I knew she had a good idea, so I knew it was going to go somewhere. Did I know it was going to go this far to an event like this? Not at that moment I didn't," said Dan Robinson.
Since then, Madison has grown up and her business has grown too. Her shoes are being sold in stores all over the country. Her designs are inspired by sea creatures, hence the name FishFlops.
"We just started out with like the basic shoes and didn't have anything, and now we've upgraded to the lighting system we have and women's sizes, so it's been a really big year for us," said Madison.
Her love for people is the sole reason behind her autograph signing at the Flip Flop Shop in Biloxi. Madison's best friend was recently diagnosed with a hole in her heart and had to undergo life saving surgery. Since the store is a big supporter of the American Heart Association and they carry FishFlops, Madison and her dad thought why not team up and do a meet and greet.
"This is the first event we've done at a Flip Flop Shop, and it's so lucky for us to tie it in with the American Heart Association. Everybody has been so supportive. As a dad being able to have an event like this and support something good like the American Heart Association...and at a Flip Flop shops...you can't beat it," said Dan Robinson.
Madison says when she graduates high school in a couple of years she plans to pursue a design or business degree so she can expand FishFlops into a lifestyle brand.
