(CNN) – The suspected mastermind of the attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya is expected to arrive in the United States soon.

His arrival could be as early as this weekend when officials expect Ahmed Abu Khatallah to arrive in the U.S.

He has spent most of the past two weeks on board the USS New York, being interrogated by the High Value Detainee Interrogation Group, which is led by the FBI.

The attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi left four people dead, including an ambassador.

Khatallah faces a federal charge of killing a person during an attack on a federal facility.

He's expected to face a formal indictment as soon as he arrives in the U.S.
