MS Gulf Coast Visitors Bureau has new director

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - After a seven month search Renee Areng has been picked to be the new Executive Director of The Mississippi Gulf Coast Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Areng will start on August 1, and make an annual salary of $135,000.

According to CVB tourism commissioner and chairman of the search committee Rich Westfall, Areng was the number two person at Visit Baton Rouge a convention and visitors bureau in Louisiana.

"We wanted the best person to come in and take over," Westfall said.

Since the Mississippi Gulf Coast was once her competition, CVB officials say she understands the Gulf Coast's tourism strengths and weaknesses.

Areng worked at Visit Baton Rouge for 12 years.
