Hundreds of times every year Mississippi authorities have to knock on a door and deliver the worst possible news. The news that a family member has died in a traffic accident. And far too often the death comes as the result of simple distractions.
Distractions like cell phones, changing a CD, eating and even turning around to check a child in the back seat. Anything that takes the driver's eyes off the road can lead to disaster.
We agree with the Mississippi Highway Patrol's Driving requires Initiative, Values and Education or "DRIVE Program. The Highway Patrol says pay attention or pay a fine. The idea is to make sure everyone on the road reaches their destinations safely and all the knocks on your door are not to deliver the worst possible news.
