Safety officials blitz the Coast with storm preparedness advice

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Just how prepared are you for a hurricane? That's the question Mississippi Department of Transportation leaders asked Coast residents who were out shopping at Edge Water Mall on Saturday.

MDOT has teamed with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross to provide information that residents need to know to prepare for a storm.

The three agencies will blitz the Coast over the next six weeks in hopes of reaching as many people as they can.

"We have checklists, emergency checklists, available. We want them to have every item that they need whether it is something as simple as water to something as not simple as medication," said MDOT Public Information Officer Michael Flood. "We're all kind of giving out the same type of information. Ours obviously is more centered more towards traffic, you know, roadways and evacuation routes."

The agencies will take their readiness messages to the Outlet Mall in Gulfport on July 12.
