BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The Mississippi Department of Transportation has closed Interstate 110 until 9 a.m. on Sunday so crews can demolish the Big Ridge Road Bridge. MDOT crews loaded the bridge with 400 pound of dynamite on Saturday afternoon but left the detonation wires uninstalled until the road closed.

MDOT plans to blow the bridge up sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight.

People were able to reach the free Darius Rucker concert on Harrah's Great Lawn from I-110 earlier in the day, but traffic will be diverted towards Ocean Springs as the concert lets out. Motorists traveling eastbound will be directed down Highway 609 to reach Interstate 10.

To help the flow of more than 13,000 concert goers cross Highway 90 to their cars, westbound traffic on Highway 90 will be diverted to Myrtle Street to Howard Avenue.

Biloxi city officials tell us westbound traffic on Highway 90 is bumper-to-bumper and becoming more congested.

Biloxi police and MDOT have been planning for potential traffic problems all week. Law enforcement agencies from across Harrison County are pitching in to help prevent a traffic gridlock. MDOT Project Engineer Mike Harter said to keep traffic on Highway 609 moving northbound, engineers will be stationed at each stop light and will manually operate each light to keep traffic flowing smoothly.

Biloxi police advise avoiding Highway 90 altogether if possible. They want to remind people to be aware of pedestrians and to be patient with police and traffic officials.

We will keep you updated on traffic conditions throughout the evening on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
