Development of west Jackson gets east coast boost

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The effort to develop West Jackson is getting some east coast boost.

Real estate developers are discussing the construction of a multi-million dollar development in West Jackson.

A large crowd packed the Koinonia Coffee House to learn more about "Downtown West."

The new building will include 136 apartments plus a 24,000 square foot retail space. It's a collaboration between Morrow and Associates of New York, and Voice of Calvary Ministries in Jackson.

The complex will be located near Jackson State along the Robert Smith Parkway.

The "Koinonia Coffee House" will likely have to be torn down.

"We'll miss the building but Koinonia will exist in some form in some structure," said Koinonia owner Lee Harper. "We will always be around but we started Koinonia with a purpose encouraging development in west Jackson and central Jackson so we're excited about the project."

Construction is expected to start in March of 2015.
