MAGEE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Simpson County cemetery is damaged after a vehicle crash.

Sheriff Ken Lewis says the deputies responded to the accident at Gregory Cemetery on Highway 541 north near Magee.

Simpson County deputies, MHP and AMR responded to the call at around 8:50 pm on Tuesday. The sheriff says a Ford F-150 went around a curve and overturned in the cemetery.

Roughly 20 headstones and grave markers were damaged or destroyed.

The couple's insurance company is now involved in the process.

Officials told us on Wednesday that Sandra and Jerry Miley of Florence were in the vehicle when the accident happened and were transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Sandra Miley contacted Mississippi News Now on Thursday and said she and her husband were actually at home when the accident happened.

She says her grandson, 22-year-old Nathan McKee, was driving the Ford F-150 alone at the time. She says he managed to flag down a passer-by, who called 911.

She says McKee was injured but was never hospitalized.
