GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A Gulfport man out of prison on parole for two murder charges was arrested on drug charges Tuesday. Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania said 42-year-old George Andrew Johnson is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and fugitive from justice.

Papania said Johnson was arrested as a result of an operation launched by the Gulfport Police Department Narcotics Division. Officials said narcotics detectives set up a sting at the Family Dollar on 28th Street.

Papania said Johnson arrived and attempted to sell marijuana to a person in the parking lot of the store. Authorities said Johnson fled the scene on foot when he saw detectives and was arrested after a short pursuit.

Officers later learned that Johnson was wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for parole violations.

Johnson is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center without bond for being a fugitive from justice.
