OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

The CMT show Party Down South hasn't given up on the city of Ocean Springs. Although, there's technically nothing that the city can do to stop it, Party Down South producers are still trying to get the city on board with filming. The latest offer from the show was a $25,000 check to fund the city's 4th of July celebrations. The city discussed this in a meeting Tuesday evening.

A 4th of July celebration is something of a tradition on Ocean Springs Front Beach. Sources say that when CMT's Party Down South heard that it may not happen this year, the production company wanted to pitch in.

"I hoped we didn't do it. I'd rather have no fireworks. I mean, I'll go down to the beach and do sparklers with my kids myself," said Colby Kennedy.

For her, seeing the city accept a check from the production company would be a slap in the face.

"Then I think it would be about the almighty dollar and not about the citizens of this town," said Kennedy.

Some in the city have been fighting the show for weeks. On June 3rd, the council passed a resolution asking the production company to not consider the city as a filming location. That's what Alderman John Gill had in mind when looking at the possibility of accepting the show's offer.

"It was kind of hypocritical for us to do that to accept their money, so we looked for single sponsorship," said Gill.

That sponsorship came in the form of a $15,000 donation from Walley and Paige Carter. But, that only covers part of the cost. The city hopes to get at least $5,000 from the Jackson County Board of Supervisors to pay for part of the $12,000 of overtime that city employees would get for working the event.

Gill is confident that the overtime expenses can be reduced and that other private donors will tie up the loose ends. So, he's hoping that the city will still be able to have a big production come 4th of July weekend.

As for Party Down South, sources close to the city say that production may still be planning to move forward.
