Jon Williams has been named Assistant Head Coach/Director of Player Personnel at Southern Miss. Golden Eagles head coach Todd Monken made the announcement on Monday. Williams was head coach at Itawamba Community College for the last four seasons.
"We are pleased to have Jon join our staff." said Monken. "He comes to us from a quality junior college program and we look forward to him directing our efforts in bringing in future Golden Eagles as well as mentoring our current players."
Williams said,"The opportunity to work at the FBS level and a program with such a rich tradition was too good to pass up. I am excited to be a small part of assisting the current staff at Southern Miss. I believe Todd Monken and his vision for where the program needs to be and his plan to follow in order to get there."
Before taking over the head coaching duties at Itawamba, Williams spent three years as an assistant coach in Fulton. He posted a 21-16 career record at Itawamba with three runner-up finishes in the MACJC North Division and one playoff appearance.
His Indians ripped off victories in their first five games and enjoyed the program's highest ranking ever at No. 4 in the NJCAA poll.
Williams is a 1996 graduate of Wingate University and served as an assistant coach at Wayne County High School, Simpson High School and East Central Community College.
The Panama City, Florida native was the head coach at Locust Fork High School in Alabama and spent six seasons at Mississippi College as offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and the head strength and conditioning coach.
Williams replaces Steve Buckley, who resigned after two seasons to pursue a private business venture.
