NAPOLEONVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

An 8-year-old is dead, while two other children and their father were injured when the car they were in flipped and everyone was thrown out Sunday night, according to authorities.

Louisiana State Police reported it is believed the driver, Brian Gilton, 26, of Napoleonville, was impaired at the time of the crash. The name of the child who died was not released. Troopers said none of those in the car had on seatbelts.

TFC Evan Harrell with LSP said the wreck happened on LA 1 near Howard Lane in Napoleonville just before 9 p.m. He added the 2008 Chevrolet Impala Gilton was driving went off the road, hit a culvert, slammed into a utility pole and overturned.

According to Harrell, Gilton was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with moderate injuries. Harrell stated the other children, ages four and five, were taken to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
