Congo Jam raises money for school in Africa

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

Fort Maurepas Park in Ocean Springs was home to a free concert on Saturday to support a good cause.

The Crossroads Church of the Nazarene hosted Congo Jam in an effort to raise money to build a school in Africa. The concert was free, but the church was selling concessions, T-shirts and accepting donations.

Concert organizer Andy Turcotte set the goal at $8,000 to get the school built. He credits God with the inspiration for the event.

"This came about because I was there in Africa about four months ago. Basically, I found out that a school cost $8,000 and immediately just on my heart was placed the responsibility to provide that to a certain village," said Turcotte.

Congo Jam featured eight Christian bands, including The Barber Brothers, Matt Cowart Ministries and wake the Kings. The bands rocked the stage and raised money until 7 p.m.
