A flash flood warning was in effect for Shelby County most of Thursday evening.
MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC) - Memphis fire crews worked a water rescue call for hours Thursday after a report that three or four teenagers were possibly swept away in a flooded storm drain.
Witnesses say they saw male teens in water, hanging onto tree branches at Hillsdale and Charleswood avenues, which run parallel next to the Shelby Farms Greenline in East Memphis.
The large concrete ditch, called Harrison Creek, can get up to six feet deep. Fire crews searched a wide area stretching all the way to the Wolf River roughly three miles toward Germantown.
In order to better continue to the search, police urge parents to talk to their children and question playing in a storm drain around 6:45 p.m. Those with information should call the non-emergency number: 545-677.
Authorities are trying to determine if these teens were washed away in the swift water. A flash flood warning was in effect for Shelby County most of Thursday evening.
