Lamar County authorities investigate auto burglaries

Posted: Updated:

Lamar County authorities are working to solve a string of auto burglaries in the Trace subdivision.

Over the past few days, 14 auto burglaries have been reported in the Courtland Drive area. According to Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel, the vehicles were not broken in to, like breaking windows and such, but it was a crime of opportunity because those vehicles were unlocked. Rigel also added that due to the increase in people being out and about because school is not in session, they have stepped up patrols in neighborhoods around the county.

“Don’t provide a window shopping opportunity for these individuals, don't leave your laptops, your cameras and stuff like that in plain view especially if your door is unlocked, because it's going to be gone in the morning, there is a very good chance of that,” said Rigel.

Rigel also urges anyone in the community that sees anything suspicious, or out of place to contact local authorities
