A Republican's surprising primary loss, the death of an actress and the start of the World Cup all made headlines this week. A Republican's surprising primary loss, the death of an actress and the start of the World Cup all made headlines this week.

(RNN) - House Majority Leader Eric Cantor lost his district's Republican primary on Tuesday.

Cantor announced he will complete his current term in office but will step down as House majority leader on July 31.

Actress and activist Ruby Dee has died. Dee started her acting career in the '40s and won an Emmy and Grammy for her work. She was 91 years old.

The World Cup began on Thursday. Host nation Brazil played Croatia in the opening match. The U.S. team has its first match on Monday.

    Two people ran from the burning home in the Saucier community overnight. First responders say the duo was inside the burning building long enough to breathe in too much smoke. AMR rushed both people to the hospital so they could be treated for smoke inhalation. By the time fire trucks arrived, flames and smoke could be seen pouring out of the entire home. The trailer was a total loss. Sullivan says the home did not have working smoke alarms.
