First deadline approaching for Groundworx permit hearing

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The first deadline for the MDEQ evidentiary hearing is set for 4 p.m. Friday, June 13.

Motions and pre filed direct testimonies must be filed by that deadline in order to be a part of the July 15 hearing in Jackson.

Councilwoman Deborah Delgado, NAACP President Clarence Magee and Pastor Franklin Brown each submitted a letter to MDEQ on April 30 questioning the validity of the Groundworx permit. That resulted in an evidentiary hearing.

Any work that Groundworx conducts in the meantime is done at their own risk, according to Mississippi statute (Miss. Code Ann. section 49-17-29(3)(c)). It also states that the permit is valid when it is issued.
