FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Forrest County is using a new Mississippi Dept. of Environmental Quality grant to host a county-wide Clean Up Day this Saturday. The event will give residents a chance to drop off non-hazardous household waste products at various locations throughout the county and have them disposed of properly.

The Solid Waste Assistance Grant totals $16,080 and will be used to pay for man hours and waste disposal.

Items the county will accept include used tires, old appliances and yard waste. No hazardous waste will be accepted.

"It's really cost effective, because instead of using the manpower to go out there and clean-up the material found in the roadways and ditches, they can bring it to us," said Corey Proctor, planning director for Forrest County.

County officials said it's the 10th time since Hurricane Katrina that the county has hosted a clean up event.

Clean Up Day hours are from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Drop-off locations are listed on the county's website at www.forrestcountyms.us .
