Part of Laurel's history on display at Sawmill Square Mall

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

A part of Laurel history is on display at the Sawmill Square in Laurel. A Lindsey eight-wheel wagon from the late 1800s has been restored and is now on display inside the mall.

The Lindsey wagon was built in Laurel during the heyday of Lumber mills by John and S.W. Lindsey, who patented the eight-wheel wagon and organized The Lindsey Wagon Company, of Laurel. The concept and manufacturing were both extremely successful and the eight-wheel wagon was found all across the U.S. and in Central and South America.

The Sawmill Square Mall sits on the location of the original sawmill located in Laurel during the early 1900s. Also, the Lindsey Wagon Company always paid their employees in silver dollars. The company went out of business in  the early 1950s upon the death of John Lindsey.

The Lindsey wagon will be at the Sawmill Square Mall indefinitely and can be seen during mall hours.
