Ex-Moss Point Police Chief announces run for Jackson Co. Sheriff

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Former Moss Point Police Chief Sheila Smallman announced on Wednesday that she has officially thrown her hat into the ring for the special election to fill the position of Jackson County Sheriff. Smallman was terminated as Moss Point Police Chief in 2011 after city officials said she lacked leadership.

"My first priority is to restore trust in the Office of Sheriff," said Smallman. "I think we can get there by being accessible to the public, increasing the number of deputies on the street, random and scheduled audits of each department, utilizing our reserve deputies and many more things."

The special election for Jackson County Sheriff will be held in November.
