PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The defense called a firearm forensic scientist to the stand on Monday in the trial of a man accused of killing a Valley cop.

Bryan Hulsey is accused of shooting Glendale Police Officer Anthony Holly during a traffic stop in 2007.

The defense had the witness testify about bullet fragments at the scene of the shooting.

The prosecution argued the expert doesn't have the proper training.

The other officer on the scene has also testified, describing the moment Hulsey pulled out a gun.

"He reached into the right side of his waist line and as he was doing this he said something like 'I've got something for you' or 'I've got this for you,'" said the witness,  whose identity has not been released.

The trial had been delayed several times because prosecutor Juan Martinez was working on the Jodi Arias case.

If convicted, Hulsey faces the death penalty.
