Search ends for missing Wayne County man

WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The search for a missing Wayne County man ended Friday afternoon when he returned home on his own accord.

John Wesley Dyess was transported to a local hospital for dehydration and scratches according to Wayne County PIO Sean Dunlap.

Wayne County emergency officials and volunteers searched a large area near Billy Ray Boyles Road in the Whistler Community for John Wesley Dyess, 27, who was reported missing Wednesday night.

"Dyess left his home around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, and was wearing a long sleeve dark blue shirt and dark denim pants with work boots," said Wayne County PIO, Sean Dunlap.

Authorities stated that Dyess was in no type of trouble, and that it was  simply a welfare check.

According to family members, Dyess had no medical issues they are aware of.

"Dyess has no cellphone with him, but is believed to have his wallet and identification," said Dunlap.

Authorities stated that there was no indication of kidnapping or foul play involved in the matter.

Search crews consisting of volunteers from MEMA, Wayne County, Hattiesburg, Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, among other agencies who used methods of horseback, ATV, foot searches, dogs, and air support to aid in the mission.

Volunteers and staff from both the American Red Cross South and East Central Mississippi Chapters provided on-scene canteen support for responders involved in a search.
