SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The application period to hunt alligators in Mississippi public waters opens on Monday. Last year, applicants had two weeks to apply for a permit. This year, the application period has been shortened to just one week.
In order to qualify for a permit, you must be 16-years-old, have a valid Mississippi hunting license and be a resident of Mississippi. Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks officials said each person who gets drawn for a permit must attend, or have previously attended, the Mississippi Alligator Hunter Training Course.
Officials said all applications must be completed online by June 9. Applications are free and applicants can apply once for each of the seven geographical zones.
