BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - On Saturday afternoon in Biloxi, dozens of folks came out to celebrate something very special to the heritage of their community, the 80th anniversary of the Biloxi French Club.
It's a club that was started to help people of French descent be more aware of their ancestry as well as become more active in the Biloxi community.
Over time, the club became known as an avenue to get others in the community together for social events.
"You hold on to your cultural exchange that you had as your parents or grandparents or great-grandparents when they first arrived here," said Edmond Boudreaux. "Most of them couldn't speak anything but French, but over time they learned how to speak English. They became productive citizens of Biloxi, so all that keeps us in tune to where we came from. It is a window to our past."
Boudreaux is from the Biloxi area and served as this year's guest speaker at the celebration.
