Southern Miss stays alive in the C-USA Baseball Tournament

HATTIESBURG, MS (WLOX) - Hattiesburg is the site of the Conference USA Baseball Tournament and the home standing Southern Miss Golden Eagles flew back under the win column thanks to shortstop Nick Dawson's double in the eighth inning to drive in the winning run.

Southern Miss (33-24) faced a must-win Thursday following Wednesday's 9-8 10-inning loss to East Carolina.

The Golden Eagles will fly up against Thursday's night loser between East Carolina and the University of Texas-San Antonio.

Reliever Bradley Roney worked in and out of trouble over the final three innings and secured the victory. It was Roney's 30th career save, tying Collin Cargill  for the school record.

"We kept grinding," Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry said. "We found a way to win with our backs against the wall in a survival game, which every one of them is from here on out."
