St. Stanislaus names Major Gorgone as the Rockachaws basketball coach

BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - St. Stanislaus Principal Patrick McGrath announced the hiring of Major Gorgone as the Rockachaws new varsity basketball coach.

He takes over from Ricky Stone who coached the Rockachaws from 2011 through the 2014 season.

Gorgone has 12 years of coaching experience and has served as the head varsity coach at Pearl River High School in Pearl River, Louisiana since 2011.

He began his coaching career at Brother Martin High School in New Orleans as the head freshman and assistant varsity coach.

Two years later, Gorgone became the head junior varsity and assistant varsity coach at Archbishop Shaw High School in Marrero, Louisiana.

In 2006, Gorgone became the head varsity coach at Pope John Paul Catholic High School in Slidell, Louisiana.  He guided St. John Paul to the state playoffs three times in four years.

He became an assistant varsity basketball coach at Jesuit High School in New Orleans for the 2010-11 school year.

Gorgone takes over the Rockachaws for the 2014-2015 season.
