CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Charlotte are looking for the driver of a car that crashed into a power pole and caught fire in west Charlotte early on Thursday morning.

The incident was reported around 4 a.m. on W. Morehead Street near Freedom Drive.

The car burst into flames when it struck the pole.

Police have not located the driver but the owner of the car told police that it was stolen.

A second car crashed because of debris in the roadway from the shattered power pole.

Both cars were towed.

The road is closed in both directions.

CATS buses that use Morehead Street are detouring via Wilkinson Boulevard.

Duke Energy crews are on scene removing downed lines and installing a new power pole.

The road is not expected to reopen until later in the morning.
