GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The second Gulfport Harbor Farmers' Market kicked off Wednesday at Jones Park. The annual event featured eleven vendors selling everything from fresh vegetables to salsa.
Most of the vendors were from George, Stone, Pearl, and Hancock Counties. It's a "producer only" food and plant market. That means everything is either grown, raised or made by the sellers. All the vendors must go through a special application process to be selected to participate.
Pat Scrimsher of PJ Farm is among those vendors, and says she knows why people are drawn to shop at events like this.
"I think that people really want fresh produce. I think they really want fresh product and unique things that people are doing all on their own," Scrimsher said. "Whether it's their baking, or sauces, they like meeting the person that they're buying their product from."
The farmers' market is scheduled to take place every Wednesday from 9am to 1pm under the Barksdale Pavilion at Jones Park.
