Jackson resident: Valley Park subdivision is a troubled area

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson resident, not wanting to reveal his identity, says police were at the Valley Park subdivision twice Sunday before an incident caught by a WLBT camera happened. This is where 34 year old Calvin Durr held his girlfriend and her three year old son hostage for four hours before finally surrendering to police.

"This is a problem area," said the resident. "We have had noise from this area from the same home for over two years. I have addressed it to the management of Valley Park and they seem to do nothing about it."

So, he was forced to call Jackson Police and received a case information card after police went to Valley Park twice Sunday before the hostage situation occurred.

Jackson resident says,

"Around 5:30p.m. I called police and a police officer came to my home," said the resident. "He went down there to address it. He came back to my home and told me that they were out in the yard drinking beer and having a party with several people and he told them to hold it down."

About an hour later, this neighbor called JPD back out to Valley Park because the noise was extremely loud.

"And it wasn't thirty minutes or so after that, police went driving by with all the sirens on and that is when the incident happened," says the Jackson resident.

This resident says he is fed up with the problems and has called the property owner, but nothing is being done about the rowdy tenants. He believes this behavior is ruining his property value.

"I would just like to see the management take some responsibility for their tenants and do something about it," adds the neighbor.

We tried to contact the property owners, but calls have not been returned.
