Wind advisory issued for metro New Orleans area

Updated:
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a wind advisory, which is in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday.

Winds are expected to be 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts possible. Areas near the immediate south shore of Lake Pontchartrain and elevated roadways could see gusts as high as 40 mph.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects.

Higher gusts could make driving difficult on elevated roads and bridges.

The wind advisory is issued ahead of a strong cold front that will bring cooler conditions Thursday, with highs only expected to reach the mid-70s.
