High School baseball and softball playoff scores

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The two-time defending Class 3A State fast pitch softball champion St. Patrick Lady Irish (27-3) took care of business Monday evening on the home field.

Head coach Tommy Castanedo received offense and relied on excellent pitching for a 9-1 win over Choctaw Central, completing a two-game sweep of the Lady Warriors.

St. Patrick junior pitcher Sabrina Turner threw a four hitter and smacked a solo homer to help her own cause.  She's now 21 & 2 on the mound for St. Patrick this season.

Victoria Tyler added a two-run homer as the Lady Irish advance to the Class 3A State Championship finals beginning the best-of-three series Friday night at 6:00 at Ridgeland.

Harrison Central relied on the solid pitching of Madison Burge and timely hitting to claim the Class 6A South State fast pitch softball championship.  The Rebelettes (28-5) advance to the state finals beginning Friday night at 7:30 at Ridgeland.

East Central (22-6) went for the sweep of Pascagoula Friday night at Ingalls Field and completed their mission with a 6-1 win over the Panthers in the Class 5A South State baseball finals.

After Pascagoula grabbed a 1-0 lead over the Hornets with a run in the bottom of the third, the Hornets would plate 5 runs in the top of the fourth inning.

The Hornets advance to the Class 5A South State finals beginning Thursday night at 6:00 hosting West Jones in Hurley.  The Mustangs beat Pearl River Central 2-0 Monday night for a two game sweep of the Blue Devils.

Oak Grove showed no mercy in pounding Gulfport 12-0 Monday night to advance to the Class 6A South State finals.  The Warriors beat the Admirals 5-0 on Saturday at Oak Grove.

Over the years, Rice has earned a reputation for winning close baseball games, and Coach Wayne Graham said the reason for that was very simple. “Well, if you’ve got good relief pitching, you look real smart,” Graham said shortly after watching his closer, Glenn Otto, surrender only a walk over the final 3 1/3 innings of Rice’s 4-3 victory over Old Dominion Thursday in the second round of The First, A National Banking Association, Conference USA Championship. ...More >>
