HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Huntsville man faces 39 felony charges including attempted murder, stalking and child exploitation.

Danny Cherry is in the Madison County Jail, but is awaiting extradition to Indiana to face charges after detectives said he harassed members and children in the Chin community.

Detectives believe Cherry is responsible for creating fake Facebook accounts to solicit sex involving minors, and used the website to intimidate and threaten members of Chin, a community in Indianapolis, housing refugees from the country of Myanmar.

An arrest warrant for Cherry was obtained last week. They said he began harassing teen boys in the community back in October. Court documents said Cherry used social media and made more than 300 calls in 15 days, harassing one teen.

Police said Cherry would threaten them if they did not agree to send pictures of their private areas. Police believe threats took a turn when Cherry took a trip to Indianapolis in January and fired a gun through a residence, hitting a man in the head. The victim survived.

Cherry has been in an Alabama courtroom several times. He was arrested in Madison County for arson and assault, but was found not guilty. In 2012, he was arrested in Jefferson County for arson and attempted murder, but the case was dropped.

There was also a case from March 2014, where he was arrested for stalking and making a terrorist threat on the University of Alabama Huntsville campus. The claim comes from a student who said Cherry continued to harass him and make advances. UAH has since taken action to separate Cherry from the university. The case has since been dropped.

Cherry, speaking from the Madison County Jail, maintains his innocence and said detectives threatened his family if he didn't give them a confession.

Cherry's sister also faces a charge of obstruction of justice for her role of allegedly attempting to destroy evidence. She also faces extradition to Indianapolis.
