GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Guntersville dentist is setting a lofty goal of doubling the number of patients to whom he plans to give free care.

Each year, Total Dental Care hosts a free day of services for those who would otherwise be unable to afford care. Dr. Chris Harper hopes to see 100 people this year.

He has added another dentist to his program to help him reach his goal. Harper said it's just his way of helping give back to the community.

"Guntersville and this area has been good to me," said Dr. Harper. "I feel great that dentists go to other countries and do mission trips, but we've decided to focus all of our attention here locally. There's people here in our own community that really need the help."

The event is this Friday from 8 a.m. and is first-come, first-serve. Harper encourages people who come out to bring canned food items that can be donated to a local food bank.
