Couple gets married with wedding rings put into Salvation Army kettle

Posted: Updated:

An anonymous woman who put two wedding rings into a Salvation Army kettle has helped a Purvis couple have the wedding they worried they could never afford.

Angel White married Charles Morris on Saturday at the Salvation Army's Kroc Center in Biloxi, 90 minutes south of Purvis.

The donor wanted the rings given to a Christian couple who could not afford a diamond and were making a lifetime commitment.

The Salvation Army contest received nearly 500 entries.

Morris' mother nominated her son and White, whose 16-month-old son, Joseph, died in October.

She wrote that they wanted to marry, but could not afford either rings or a headstone for baby Joseph.

Kroc Center event planner Becky Weitzel said Joseph's photo was on the altar as his mother became Angel Morris.
