HOLLY SPRINGS, MS -
(WMC) - Investigators from across the state of Mississippi are working to solve a double homicide and officials confirmed the identities of the victims on Sunday.
Galicia Mansilla Edwin Estuardo of Greenbrier, Tenn. and Erian Conejochavez of Springfield, Tenn. were found shot to death and burned inside an SUV in rural Marshall County on Saturday.
Officials say that Estuardo was the driver of the Nissan Murano.
The homeowner who found the bodies is stunned by the graphic scene; images that can scar a person for life - and even shocked longtime investigators.
Veteran officer Kelly McMillen cannot believe what he saw inside the vehicle that morning.
"It was terrible, to be honest with you," said Kelly. "Whoever the suspect is in this case apparently tried to burn the remains of the individuals inside the vehicle."
A homeowner found the bodies around 10 a.m. on a patch of grass off of Smith Grove Road and about half a football field from their front door. The family did not want to talk on camera, but they called the scene horrifying.
"It appears the accelerant they used burned for a little while and then smoldered itself out without having any oxygen to continue to burn," noted McMillen.
Investigators say both men had multiple gunshot wounds.
"We were able to locate multiple shell casings and some evidence on the scene," added McMillen.
The SUV appeared to be brand new, with drive out tags that law enforcement asked WMC Action News 5 not to show. Investigators are not ruling out a gang or drug-related hit.
"There's a possibility. At this point, we're not ruling out anything," said McMillen.
The Mississippi Bureau Investigation is helping sort out the scene.
"They sent us an investigator along with their Crime Scene Unit. We're going to process the vehicle," added McMillen.
Meanwhile, everyone who saw what was inside this SUV was left with a chilling memory.
The sheriff's office is working to locate the suspects. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-2169.
