The St. Louis Cardinals want more pop in their offense and promoted Joey Butler from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.
He'll replace rookie outfielder Randal Grichuk, who was sent to Memphis on Thursday.
28-year-old Butler was batting .360 for the Memphis Redbirds with four home runs and 20 RBIs in 31 games. He ranked fifth in the Pacific Coast League in batting and second in on-base percentage with a .481 mark.
Butler was the Rangers' 15th round draft pick in 2008 after a stellar career at the University of New Orleans.
He has a .304 career batting average in 400 games on the Triple-A level.
Butler is expected to be in uniform for Friday's series opener at PNC Park.
