TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

It's time to celebrate the nation's public gardens.  Southern Arizona has some of the most highly recognized open spaces in the country.

Today the public can check out Tohono Chul Park for free.  The park is opening its doors and letting everyone in at no cost to help celebrate the National Public Gardens Day.

For those who have not been to this park, it is a real treasure.  In fact Tohono Chul Park has been named one of the world's great botanical gardens by Travel and Leisure Magazine.

So if you are looking to get out somewhere nice today, try one of the public gardens around Tucson.

Tucson Botanical Gardens is also letting people explore their 17 specialty gardens for free.  Just print out a free admission coupon online, or mention it is National Public Gardens Day and they will let visitors right in.

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is also showcasing its vibrant eco system, with 1,200 different plants.  The museum is celebrating with free cactus tours at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. this morning.
