SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) -

A Slidell traffic stop led to the arrests of two people on drug charges Thursday.

Thomas Bush, 28, of Mandeville, faces possession with intent to distribute, two counts of contempt of court and failure to appear in court. Jennifer Ramirez, 36, of Slidell, faces possession with intent to distribute.

During the stop of a van at the intersection of Gause Boulevard and Interstate 10, a deputy said he noticed the female passenger, Ramirez, making movements as though she was trying to conceal something. When questioned, the deputy said Ramirez admitted to hiding a quarter-ounce of heroin in her bra, which she produced and handed to the deputy.

A search of the van led to the recovery of a small amount of suspected marijuana, several syringes, a spoon and a digital scale.

Bush and Ramirez told deputies they were going to a nearby motel to return the borrowed van to its owner. Deputies with St. Tammany Narcotics Task Force found the van's owner in a room registered to Bush. When the van's owner answered the door, another digital scale and various packaging materials were visible in the room. A warrant to search the room was obtained.

The search yielded a .22 caliber revolver and a 9mm Glock handgun, along with packaging materials, syringes, spoons, two digital scales and marijuana.

Authorities said Bush has a history of narcotics and DWI arrests and several arrests for failure to appear in court after being released on bond. He is being held at the St. Tammany Parish Jail on a $152,000 bond.

Ramirez has a criminal history with a DWI and multiple violent crime arrests.  She is being held on a $100,000 bond.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending, police said.
