6A South State Baseball: Gulfport Admirals face tough challenge in Oak Grove Warriors

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Gulfport eliminated D'Iberville last week, forced to go to a third and final deciding game. The Warriors from Oak Grove present another stiff challenge. Admirals head coach Jamie MacMahon says his players are up to the task.@

"They're a close knit group and they play together and kind of lay it on the line for each other,"stated MacMahon. "And we talk about it all the time, we don't care about the offensive side of the game, just play defense and kind of pull for each other and don't get down on each other and watch each others backs.

Ben Stiglets gets the starting nod on the mound for the Admirals. He's posted 7 victories, 3 losses, a 1.57 ERA with 59 strikeouts.

MacMahon said,"He's got a little velocity but he's got a good slider and he's been dominate for us so far on the mound for us this year."

Southern Miss signee Daniel Keating carries a big stick for the Admirals, batting .386 with 22 RBIs and four home runs.

Game two is set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Gulfport.
