Northwest Middle School named one of 50 best schools in the nation

Northwest Jackson International Baccalaureate Magnet School has been named one of the 50 Best Middle Schools in the United States by thebestschools.org.

According a press release sent out by Jackson Public Schools, the ranking focuses on grades 7th and 88th.

Thebestschools.org stated that Northwest Middle School has found a way to provide 77th and 88th graders with a rich school experience that prepares them superbly well for high school, college, and life.

"I am extremely proud of the academic accomplishments that has taken place at Northwest Middle School," said Superintendent Dr. Cedrick Gray. "This national recognition proves what we have said all along, that our students and teachers are some of the brightest in the entire country."

According to JPS, Northwest is an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program school with students in grades 6-8. It is an "A" school based on Mississippi Department of Education accountability results.

Chinelo Evans Turner is principal of Northwest Middle School.
