BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Gary Rath and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College administrators met this week and after the meeting Rath agreed to step down.

Rath said,"It's been a great run at Gulf Coast. I appreciate all the support from fans and the college, and I also appreciate the effort from my players."

Rath took over the Bulldogs head coaching reins after one season as an assistant in 2009.  The Long Beach native guided Gulf Coast to 126 victories and four trips into post season play.  His 2012 Bulldogs were second in the MACJC Tournament.

"We mutually agreed that this was the best course of action," said Dr. Ladd Taylor, Gulf Coast Dean of Athletics and Perkinston Campus interim vice president. "We wish coach Rath all the best in his future endeavors."

The search for a new head coach is already underway.

Fifth-four players coached by Rath went on to four-year colleges and 32 players inked scholarships with Division-I schools.
