DIAMONDHEAD, MS (WLOX) - It wasn't a cleanup on aisle 6, but rather a cleanup in the parking lot that caused a bit of commotion at the Rouses in Diamondhead Tuesday afternoon.
Crews were called in to clean up a diesel spill after the driver of a truck hit a light pole in the parking lot head on. The impact punctured an auxiliary gas tank under the hood, and about 15 to 20 gallons of fuel spilled onto the parking lot.
The area was sectioned off and sand was brought in to soak up the diesel and prevent it from getting into a nearby storm drain. Buckets were placed underneath the truck to catch any leaking fuel, and what was left inside the truck was being transferred to another vehicle.
Diamondhead Fire Chief Jerry Dubission was overseeing the cleanup operation and said most of the fuel on the ground would evaporate. He said an outside cleanup crew was being called in to remove the fuel soaked sand and finish the cleanup.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for treatment after hitting his head on the windshield.
Just before 2pm, a tow truck arrived to remove the wrecked truck.
