"Our resort has undergone a significant transformation and we wanted to introduce Harrah's Gulf Coast with an event that would set the tone for what we will offer guests," said Jonathan Jones, senior vice president and general manager of Harrah's Gulf Coast. "We can't think of a better way to do that than with a concert from an acclaimed artist like Darius Rucker. Darius' music transcends genres. It's authentic, genuine and it's undergone an evolution, just like our casino."
Planned for the first day of summer, the concert will mark the resort's official change from the former Grand Biloxi Casino to the new Harrah's Gulf Coast. Bands from the local area will open the show, and food and drinks will be available for sale from local vendors. The night will close with a fireworks display over the Gulf of Mexico.
"Country music captures the essence of summer better than any other genre of music," said Rucker. "I'm excited to be part of such an important time for Harrah's Gulf Coast and I look forward to being the very first to perform at their new venue."
Rucker recently received his third career GRAMMY award for Best Solo Country Performance for his triple platinum selling hit song, "Wagon Wheel," which spent two weeks at No. 1 and sold more than four million copies. Last year, he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
Rucker first attained multiplatinum status as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Hootie & the Blowfish. The band released five studio albums with Rucker as a member and charted six top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, with Rucker co-writing the majority of the songs with the other three members.
