BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

In Bessemer, one church took a break from the usual Sunday service.

The Woodland Hills Church of God held a prayer service for neighbors still coping with last week's storm. The service was on the church's parking lot and they invited the entire community to join.

Several Bessemer-area homes were damaged last Monday night after an EF-1 tornado ripped through the town.

"We've had volunteers from this church, from several other churches, that have just given their time with their boots on the ground all week. Every time you turn around, there's somebody serving someone else and that has been so delightful to see in this neighborhood," said Pastor Jeff Pardue.
