Montgomery teen drowns in Lowndes County

LOWNDES CO., AL (WSFA) -

The body of a 17-year-old male was recovered from the water near the Holy Ground picnic area off Highway 80 in Lowndesboro Monday morning.

Lowndes County Deputy Coroner Walter Hill has identified the teen as Lucas Pantaleon of Montgomery.

The boy was with family members on a picnic Sunday when he apparently got too far from the bank and went under the water, according to officials.

State Police, the Montgomery Fire Department and Montgomery Search and Rescue's dive team joined with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department early Monday to search for the victim.

The victim's body was recovered around 11:15 a.m. The drowning is being classified as accidental.
