KSLA News 12 Editorial: May 5th-Common Core Viewer Response

Posted: Updated:

Common Core is a controversial topic. It's an education initiative that details what students in kindergarten through 12th grade should know at the end of each grade.

Louisiana has adopted the Common Core standards, but Governor Jindal now has second thoughts. In my editorial, I said he should not waiver on Common Core.
Others disagree.

Kasanda wrote: "Common Core is a plan by Bill Gates and the Department of Education to control people, plain and simple.
And they are wrapping this diabolical plan in the trappings of 'uniform educational standards'. They are not teaching standards, they are teaching their radical ideas and rewriting textbooks to agree with their view of history. "

Donna wrote: "School administrators support it, but parents across the state have risen up against the Common Core as it takes more parental rights from the parents. As parents, we are sick of the schools telling us how to raise our children."

So far, 44 states including Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma have adopted Common Core. Texas has not. As always, thank you for your comments.

I'm James Smith.
