Armored vehicle coming soon to Biloxi police

Posted: Updated:
BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The Biloxi Police Department  just added a big addition to their team thanks to Brinks Security. Last year, the company was getting rid of some older armored cars, and one landed in the hands of the Biloxi Police Department.

After a fresh coat of green paint, the Brinks logos have been removed and the department is preparing the truck for use by the SRT or SWAT team.

If you're wondering why the department needs an armored car, SRT Commander, Sgt. John Ducet says there are plenty of uses for the vehicle.

"This will be utilized for doing search warrants, arrest warrants. The biggest thing it is going to be used for is officer rescue or even civilian rescues. You can place a team inside, it's got armor protection. You can drive right up to where the persons at, pick them up, put them inside and get them out without any danger to anybody else," said SRT Commander, Sgt. John Ducet.

Because the armored car is much bigger than what the officers normally drive, Ducet says only a few officers will be trained to drive it.
