Pass in the Night draws a crowd in Pass Christian

PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) -

Pass Christian saw a great turnout Saturday for the monthly Pass in the Night event. Downtown shops and restaurants featured special offers, live music and great food.

"We want all of our residents, inside Pass Christian and outside, to know what we have to offer," said store owner Jennifer Burke.

Burke owns the Purple Pelican gift shop, but she also happens to be the head of Pass Christian Main Street. That's the organization that sponsors the monthly Pass in the Night event.

Burke says being a participating shop owner gives her an inside look into the joy the night brings to patrons.

"On Pass in the Night, it's wonderful to see everybody come in, to spend a little time with them, to get to know those that are new to the area. It's a wonderful feeling," said Burke.

The downtown outing happens on the first Saturday of every month. Burke says there has been a bit of a hiatus during the winter months. So, Saturday night was really the official kick-off weekend for the summer season.

For Pass Christian couple Brian and Katherine Kett that's great news. They try to make it to every Pass in the Night that they can.

"Everybody's friendly, everybody comes out, everybody participates," said Brian.

This month's Pass in the Night guests were given a special treat. New York Times Best Selling Author Greg Iles held a book signing at Pass Christian Books.

"Really, it's time to come back down and reconnect with the fans down here," said Iles.

He used this opportunity to do just that, with Pass in the Night as a backdrop. Eleanor Commiskey is one of his fans. She thinks Pass in the Night is a great way to get people out and about in the Pass Christian community.

"I think they're just going to grow and grow and grow. I'm just very impressed with it," said Commiskey.

Pass in the Night was started about a year ago by the Pass Christian Chamber of Commerce and the Pass Christian Main Street Association.
